About DirtBike Sam
I am Sam Oldham.
I love dirt bikes and frankly anything with a motor, especially 2 stroke motors. I started dirtbikesam.com because I love talking about dirt bikes and my coworkers were sick of hearing about dirt bikes.
Growing up my dad never let us have dirt bikes, he thought they were too dangerous. I rode four-wheelers any chance I got. It was more than just having fun for me. Out riding on the trail was my happy place, where I could escape the world. I really loved four wheeling, but I dreamed of riding dirt bikes. When I was a teenager, I saved up enough money to buy a dirt bike, but my dad didn’t allow it. Not sure why he thought four-wheelers were safer.
It wasn’t until after I got out on my own that I was able to buy my first dirt bike, a 2005 Honda CRF 250X. Since then I have been a die-hard motorcycle fanboy. I live in Utah which is an amazing place to dirt bike. There are amazing public trails all over the state. In the hot summer months, I ride up in the mountains where it isn’t as hot. In the winter, I head to southern Utah and ride in the desert with the sand and red rocks. Everywhere I go I find amazing people and views.
Currently I ride a KTM 250 XC TPI. It is my favorite bike to date and couldn’t be happier with it. I love trying out different bikes, every bike is unique.
Late in 2019 I was laid off from my corporate sales job at a large tech company. It was devasting at the time. I felt like I had failed. During this time, I was forced to reflect on the direction of my professional life and what I really wanted to be doing. I made good money as a salesperson but didn’t feel happy or fulfilled in my job. I decided to stop looking for another corporate job and go after my dreams of being self-employed doing what I love.
In a push to make things work I started a YouTube channel called BackcountryLife with lots of dirt biking videos, I became a partner in a compact snowgrooming company called snowgroomers.net and I started this website dirtbikesam.com. At times it is stressful to make ends meet financially but I truly am living my dream working on things I am passionate about.
Outside of dirt biking I love to camp, hunt, snowboard, snowmobile and work on business projects. I believe in following your passions and making time for what makes you tic. My goal with all that I do is to create a life that is intentional and true to who I am as a person. Talking about and riding dirt bikes brings me joy and that is why I am doing what I do. I hope I can help you learn more about dirt biking but more importantly I hope I can help you figure out what your passion is and inspire you to go out and make it happen.
